Belize

Our school provides yearly trips to different countries for community service and global engagement. For the Belize trip, we visited a small Mayan village. Even though Belize’s population is around 400,000, the Mayans only make up a small portion. On the other hand, Mayans' traditions and unique knowledge are greater than those of other larger populations. The unique plants that Mayans grow, the distinct Mayan cakes, and their invention of the Mayan tacos share the same names as other cuisines, but those contain their traits in their dishes. We also visited the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and learned their gladiators played Mayan soccer for glory instead of the Romans in the Colosseum.
